Google’s ‘Make Me Asian’ App Merges Technology & Racism

Is there not an Asian Al Sharpton to address this issue while extorting Google? No way would this happen is there was a “Make Me Black” app that let users imagine themselves with a nose that wraps clean across their face. Worse yet, a teardrop tatted near their eyelid. That’s so wrong…LOL. Well how about a “Make Me White” app that automatically turns your picture into a saltine cracker that looks like every other saltine cracker out there. Now that’s worth a download, cracka. From the Shangaiist:

Google is facing uproar from Asian American groups among others over the ‘Make Me Asian’ app available in the Google Play Android app store, which allows users to add Fu Manchu moustaches, coolie hats, slanted eyes, and yellow skin effects to their photos because being ‘Asian’ is hilarious for a certain type of white person.

The free ‘Make Me Asian’ app has so far been downloaded between 50,000 to 100,000 times, according to Google Play statistics. Google says that it will not withdraw the app as it does not violate app store guidelines.

A petition on, calling for the removal of the app (and its equally racist counterpart ‘Make Me Indian’) has so far attracted over 7,000 signatures.
