Damn Man…I’ll Explain Later

Obviously not every man has a pair of bikini draws that feature a glittered letter “D” on the exterior cock. But I do. And I will explain ASAP. Until then admire your night away.

LOOPTWORKS Clothing: Upcycle Before the Hipsters Make it Uncool
Posted by Dewan Gibson | Filed under Fashion
Most of the clothing I wear is made in Asian factories by thin children with early onset arthritis and little hope for a fair wage. This sucks because the kids are often cute and if they lived in an opportune society they could make it far, maybe even star in an Asian American version of Jersey Shore called Anaheim Shore.
To make matters worse besides putting my empty bottles and cans in the dumpster that’s easy for the silent old man who sleeps outside to enter, I do very little recycling.
Obviously my actions silently condone global economic inequality and environmental destruction. So in some ways I’m no better than an elderly republican congressman who: 1) extols the virtues of capitalism while a third of the world lives on a scoop of rice a day, and 2) claims that global warming is a natural phenomenon.
But until I correct my bad economic and environmental habits I can do one thing, and that is to support brands like LOOPTWORKS, a Portland, Oregon based manufacturer that makes clothing from excess material. In other words, they create eco-friendly clothing from materials that are leftover at other factories. The term for this process is “Upcycling” and I’m sure it will soon become part of the hipster lexicon (tree huggers start the slang, takes about 12-18 months to reach the hipsters).
The picture above is of a LOOPTWORKS jacket that looks like something David Beckham would wear. And if it’s good enough for that lady killer David Beckham, it’s damn sure good enough for me. You can see more LOOPTWORKS products for men and women at www.LOOPTWORKS.com. BTW I was not compensated for the post. But it would be cool if they send me the David Beckham jacket or possibly arrange a date with a sexy saleslady.

F.R.E.S.H. Thee Apparel (What Would Jesus Wear)
Posted by Dewan Gibson | Filed under Fashion
I love to see my former students doing well. While some are constantly trying to sell me Prepaid Legal Services and others are busy proselytizing about Jay-Z and the Illuminati, most are achieving big thangs. Yes, that’s correct not “big things” but “big thangs.”
One of those students is Brandon Nelson, founder of a Christ-centered clothing line called F.R.E.S.H. Thee Apparel. Although Jesus Christ is not known for his fashion sense (though He did start the Birkenstock craze), what Brandon has done is create a modern, fashionable way for His followers to express their beliefs with clothing that has biblical passages and imagery (just check it out, it actually looks cool). Which I say is a much more effective way to spread the gospel than handing out pamphlets describing the likelihood of eternal damnation.
You can check out Brandon’s line at www.iamfreshonline.com.

Photo Shoot on a Budget: GQ Zamunda
Posted by Dewan Gibson | Filed under Arts, Fashion, Humor
I usually don’t go around taking pics, but I was asked to as part of a blog feature on my book The Imperfect Enjoyment. So I ended up driving 20 minutes to the San Diego/Tijuana border and taking pics nearing the new border wall (tax dollars NOT at work). Follow the link to see more: http://www.aliceteh.com/2009/06/author-dewan-gibson-on-six-tips-to.html UPDATE: I’m now hearing that GQ will publish these pics. However, that edition will only be released in Zamunda.
T-Pain: Big Ass Chain, Small Ass Brain?
Posted by Dewan Gibson | Filed under Fashion, Humor
T-Pain paid $410,000 for a 197 carot diamond chain that weighs 10 pounds. Knowing damn well that cars and jewelry are a black man’s kryptonite Pain twitted (I hate that damn word) about how his family is very well taken care of. Though my credit is tow up, I must say this is why black people are rich and not WEALTHY. 410k for a chain and this negro can’t even keep his baby hair lined up! 410k could have fed 410 thousand villages in Africa, where you know black ass T-Pain has some first cousins! Makes no sense to me, I’ll let Chris Rock explain it in this vid where he talks about the difference between rich and wealthy. “They spinnin nigga they spinnin!” Kind of old, but still hilarious.

Mandatory Retirement: THE VEST
Posted by Dewan Gibson | Filed under Fashion
During the past two years THE VEST has become the men’s nightclub uniform. It all started so very innocent after a few fashion trendsetters decided to take scraps from a three-piece suit and and create and dressy but casual look. It was a smooth and easy alternative to the previous nightclub uniform: blazer and striped shirt worn untucked. Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, Shia Lebeouf all wore it and wore it well. Then the douchebags got to it and ruined it for the rest of us. Unable to relinquish the early 2000’s baggy style they started wearing ill-fitting button down shirts UNTUCKED with an otherwise great vest. Worse yet the muscleheads fucked it up even more by going shirtless and using a vest to cover their steroid injection marks. So today June 10th The Vest is retired. Put that shit deep in your closet and save it for your son 20 years down the road. Well hold on, I’m going clubbing in DC this weekend and need to get a couple more days use out my vest. Sorry…
Lost the National Spelling Bee, but Has Hair Like Samson
Posted by Dewan Gibson | Filed under Fashion, Humor
As a part-time teacher I’m always excited to see young people doing well and living life to the fullest. Like I always say “do what you’ll smile at 20 years down the road.” Anyway, Alex Wells from my adopted hometown of San Diego competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. While he didn’t win (the Asians are unstoppable) he does have the potential to star in a Pert Plus commerical. I think it’s bold for an 8th grader to go all out with his hair. I’m not sure what look he’s going for, but to me it says “Larry Bird and Fabio ain’t got shit on me.” Best of luck Alex, we need more young people to do their own thang without worry of peer pressure or criticism. Get ‘em next year!
Dope, Original T’s: Cameljunk.com

I generally make very few recommendations to friends, blog readers and so on. Outside of suggesting you buy the Shaq shoe from Payless as opposed to the Air Yeezy, I have done little by way of persuasion:) Yet, I am now strongly suggesting you pickup something from Cameljunk.com. Fellas, its summer time. Put away the blazers and the vests that you wear to the club every weekend and order a stylish T-shirt that is of high enough quality to wear downtown. No lie, my little money is where my mouth is. I odered a tee a few weeks back and it already passed the two wash test. They also have clothes for the ladies. Check out more at www.cameljunk.com
Forget the Air Yeezy’s, I’m Getting the Air Shaq’s at Payless
Posted by Dewan Gibson | Filed under Fashion
Last Saturday I spent 2.5 hours in line OUTSIDE of San Diego shoe store Blends in order to have a CHANCE to buy The Air Yeezy’s for my little brother. After not winning a raffle that gave ten lucky people the opportunity to drop $300 for the shoes, I went home empty-handed. Then I browsed online and found a similiar shoe for $29.99. THE AIR SHAQ DUNK MAN GAME TIME AVAILABLE AT PAYLESS! Also, check out an article I wrote discussing how the hoopla over The Air Yeezy could be indicative of an economic rebound. A bit nerdy, but interesting: http://www.opednews.com/articles/Kanye-Leads-the-Economic-C-by-Dewan-Gibson-090411-364.html
